Day 13: Strengthened Through Suffering

Breaking Bread — 31-Day Devotional Journey

Scripture Reference: 1 Peter 5:10

Elder Andrea Williams shares from 1 Peter 5:10 on suffering, perseverance, and God’s work of strengthening believers.

Scripture declares in 1 Peter 5:10 that suffering is limited in duration but rich in purpose. God does not waste hardship; He uses it to perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle those who are called according to His glory in Christ Jesus.

Suffering is not presented as punishment but as a refining season that shapes faith and deepens dependence on God. While the process is uncomfortable, it is intentional. God’s grace operates actively during trials, forming endurance and anchoring believers on a firm foundation.

According to 1 Peter 5:10, what follows suffering is not loss but strengthening. Faith becomes resilient, identity becomes secure, and spiritual footing becomes stable. Suffering exposes where trust is placed and invites deeper reliance on God’s promises. It is not endless, nor is it empty. God’s work during hardship produces maturity that cannot be formed through ease alone.

Standing firm in faith through suffering aligns the heart with eternal glory rather than temporary relief. The promise of Scripture assures that after suffering has accomplished its work, God Himself establishes what He has refined.
