Day 10: Godliness With Contentment is Great Gain

Breaking Bread — 31-Day Devotional Journey

Scripture Reference: 1 Timothy 6:6

Apostle Natrietia McClendon shares from 1 Timothy 6:6 on godliness, contentment, and joy found in relationship with God.

Scripture declares plainly in 1 Timothy 6:6 that “godliness with contentment is great gain,” establishing contentment not as circumstance-driven but as God-centered. The walk of faith is not free from trials, yet God calls His people to carry joy and gladness as evidence of life with Him. Godliness reflects agreement with God’s standards—calling holy what He calls holy and rejecting what He calls evil. Contentment flows from that alignment, producing satisfaction and joy that do not depend on ease or comfort.

Life with God is not sustained by emotional highs but by fidelity, obedience, and trust in His presence. Contentment is not passive acceptance; it is active confidence that life in God lacks nothing essential. Scripture does not postpone contentment to eternity but establishes it as present gain. Relationship with God becomes the source of strength, purpose, and fulfillment. Outside of Him, contentment cannot be sustained. Within Him, joy accompanies obedience, and satisfaction rests in dependence on His grace.

Godliness with contentment reflects a life anchored in God’s sufficiency rather than personal ability or circumstance.
