Day 6: Preparing New Wineskins

Breaking Bread — 31-Day Devotional Journey

Scripture Reference: Matthew 9:17

Minister Ariel teaches from Matthew 9:17 on fasting, preparation, and becoming new wineskins for God’s work.

Scripture reveals that fasting is never meant to be an empty religious act but a season of preparation for transformation. In Matthew 9:17, Jesus teaches that new wine must be placed into new wineskins, or both will be ruined. This truth establishes that God’s increase requires inward readiness.

Fasting becomes the means by which the flesh is subdued and the spirit is strengthened, creating capacity for what God desires to pour out. Matthew 9:17 makes clear that old structures cannot contain new grace. Without renewal, even blessing can become destructive. The crushing and pressing associated with fasting mirrors the process that produces wine and oil, both essential to spiritual life. As the flesh weakens, sensitivity to the Spirit increases, aligning the inner life with God’s purposes.

Fasting trains obedience, sharpens discernment, and enlarges spiritual capacity. Preparation protects what God intends to release. A renewed wineskin preserves the work of God and sustains fruit beyond the season of fasting. Those who submit to this process position themselves to receive wisdom, power, and increase without loss or rupture.
