Day 1: Then it Came to Pass

Breaking Bread — 31-Day Devotional Journey

Scripture Reference: 1 Kings 18:44

Apostle Daniel McClendon teaches from 1 Kings 18:44 on remaining steadfast in God’s will despite delayed fulfillment.

Scripture records in 1 Kings 18:44 that “it came to pass the seventh time” when the servant finally saw the cloud rising out of the sea. The rain was not delayed because God was uncertain, nor was it postponed because belief was misplaced. God had already declared His will earlier in the chapter: rain was coming. What followed was not negotiation, but perseverance.

This passage establishes that God’s will is settled before manifestation appears. Fulfillment does not always accompany the first act of obedience, nor does it always follow immediate expectation. Faith is proven in continued positioning when nothing is visible. Standing on God’s Word requires endurance that refuses to be shaped by discouragement, fatigue, or self-doubt.

Delay often pressures the mind to abandon trust or reinterpret God’s intent, but Scripture does not support that conclusion. God did not change His word to Elijah, and He did not attach a timetable to His promise. The responsibility remained simple: stay aligned with what was spoken.

When God’s will is known, obedience does not fluctuate with circumstances. Belief remains active even when evidence is absent. What God has declared will come to pass, not because effort increases, but because His will does not fail.
